Sixteen student demonstrators were arrested Wednesday during the University of California Board of Regents meeting at UCLA and booked for willful disturbance of a public meeting. A UC police spokeswoman said videotapes would be reviewed to determine if any of those arrested would also be charged with resisting or delaying arrest.
Students from several UC campuses attended the Regents meeting at Covel Commons to protest a planned 7.4 percent increase in student fees. After a Regents committee voted to forward the fee hike to the full board, the students linked arms and began chanting. Police gave several warnings before arresting the demonstrators.
Members of the Regents had left the room before the arrests began. The Board of Regents is scheduled to consider the fee increase on Thursday.
