In studying a gene that drives cell growth, Project ENIGMA scientists found that a variant of the gene had heightened expression levels (shown as colored dots), which also enlarged the brain's memory centers (shadowed in green).


Expression is how a gene's DNA sequence is converted into cellular proteins.
