UCLA faculty experts advisory: U.S. patent law to undergo major change

On March 16, U.S. patent law will transition from a "first-to-invent" system to a "first-to-file" system, giving an advantage to inventors who quickly apply for patents. UCLA has an expert on "first-to-file" and patent reform legislation.

John Villasenor, a professor at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, has written frequently on patent law. He studies technology and policy challenges in areas such as cloud computing, the globalization of technology product design and manufacturing, advances in digital communications and electronics, and the increasing complexity of today’s networks and systems.
