Charles Dickens and Transport Networks
UCLA associate professor of English Jonathan Grossman was interviewed Monday on CBC Toronto's "Here and Now," Tuesday on CBC Ottawa's "All in a Day" and Wednesday on CBC Montreal's "Breakaway" about his new book, “Charles Dickens’s Networks: Public Transport and the Novel,” which explores the ways in which transportation innovations during Dickens' lifetime informed the author's works. Grossman was also featured on nine additional CBC radio broadcasts across Canada.
Astronomers Discover Dwarf Galaxy
Space.com reports today that a team of astronomers, including UCLA research astronomer Michael Rich and UCLA finance professor and amateur astronomer Francis Longstaff, has discovered a previously unknown companion galaxy to the NGC 4449 galaxy, which is some 12.5 million light years from Earth. Rich is quoted.
Medical Debt Rose in Recession
The Sacramento Bee reports today on a study by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research showing a significant increase in the number of California residents who have medical debt. Shana Alex Lavarreda, the center's director of health insurance studies, was quoted.

An article in Tuesday's Chicago Sun Times about the Princeton Review's annual 'best value' college rankings cited findings from the annual Cooperative Institutional Research Program's nationwide Freshman Survey, conducted by UCLA's Higher Education Research Institute.

KNBC-Channel 4 reported Tuesday that the UCLA Anderson School of Management is using the company Turnitin for Admissions to scan and analyze student admissions essays for plagiarism.
