New discoveries about the protoplanet Vesta made by NASA's Dawn mission, which is led by Christopher T. Russell, a professor in UCLA's Department of Earth and Space Sciences, were highlighted Thursday by the Los Angeles Times, the Associated Press, Discovery, Space.com, Nature, an NPR blog and India's Telegraph and today by New Scientist, NBC–Los Angeles and Asian News International. Russell was quoted in the coverage.
Sexual Orientation and Workplace Discrimination
An article in today's San Francisco Chronicle about efforts to get President Obama to issue an executive order outlawing workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity cited research by the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute on the number of employees of federal contractors who are currently protected against such discrimination. M.V. Lee Badgett, visiting professor at the UCLA School of Law and research director of the institute, is quoted.

The Denver Post reported Thursday on research by Seth Riley, UCLA assistant adjunct professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, and colleagues examining patterns of coyote attacks on humans near Boulder, Colo.

Alzheimer's Program Gets Innovation Award
An Examiner blog reported Thursday that that UCLA's new Alzheimer's and Dementia Care program has received a $3.2 million Health Care Innovation award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. David Reuben, chief of UCLA's geriatrics division and leader of the program, was quoted.
