UCLA Prof Wins Astrophysics Prize
The New York Times reports today that David Jewitt, a professor in the UCLA Department of Earth and Space Sciences and the UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy and director of UCLA's Institute for Planets and Exoplanets, has received the Kavli Prize in astrophysics for his research on the early stages of planet formation.
Music Mogul's Son Gets Athletic Scholarship
The awarding of a UCLA football scholarship to Justin Combs, son of entertainment mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, was highlighted today by NBC's "Today Show" and Fox News and Wednesday by KABC-Channel 7, Headline News, the Digital Journal and the blog Rhymes With Right.
How Fructose Disrupts Memory, Learning
Fox News.com reported Wednesday on a UCLA study showing that a high-fructose diet can slow the brain and hamper memory and learning in rats — and how omega-3 fatty acids can minimize the damage. Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, professor of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and professor of integrative biology and physiology in the UCLA College of Letters and Science, was quoted.

KABC-Channel 7 reported Wednesday on an associate professor-in-residence of head and neck surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA who has filed a lawsuit against the UC Board of Regents alleging he was harassed and discriminated against.
