Tackling Wage Theft in Los Angeles
An article in today's Los Angeles Times about potential wage-theft legislation in Los Angeles highlights a recent study co-authored by Ruth Milkman, UCLA professor of sociology and a faculty member at the UCLA Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, that found that low-wage workers in the United States are routinely paid less than the legal minimum wage and denied overtime pay. The article also cited an event at the UCLA Downtown Labor Center at which UCLA students helped workers draft letters demanding back pay. Milkman was quoted.
