Army's acting assistant secretary for acquisition, logistics, technology to speak

WHAT:
The UCLA Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering's 2012 Research and Technology Review (RTR) will feature a lecture and panel discussion on the U.S. government's evolving science and technology needs and opportunities for partnerships among government, industry and academia.

The event will also include presentations by UCLA faculty and students on their cutting-edge research activities that have technical applications in the areas of aerospace, defense, energy and micro-/nanotechnology.

Heidi Shyu
Shyu has been the U.S. Army's acting assistant secretary for acquisition, logistics and technology since June of 2011 and recently was nominated by President Obama to serve as the assistant secretary. She also serves as principal deputy, a position she has held since November, 2010. Shyu was formerly vice president of technology and research at Raytheon Co. She will speak about the Army's evolving science and technology needs.

Natalie Crawford
Crawford is a senior fellow at the RAND Corp. As vice president and director of RAND Project AIR FORCE from 1997 to 2006, she was responsible for all RAND research conducted for the Air Force. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, she has received the Air Force Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service twice, the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service and, in 2011, the Air Force Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the advancement of aerospace science and technology. She is a professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School.
Wayne Goodman
Goodman is vice president of space program operations at the Aerospace Corp., where he oversees four major mission areas: communications, surveillance, weather and navigation space systems. Previously, he was general manager of the company's military satellite communications division and general manager of launch and satellite control. Goodman is the recipient of the Aerospace Corp. President's Achievement Award, and has been recognized for his contributions to launch vehicle systems engineering and integration, solid-rocket motor technology, and composite structures design and analysis.
