Emergencies: In the event of a campus emergency or an imminent threat, immediately call 911 or the UCLA Police Department at 310-825-1491. Also, if you have safety concerns or if you witness any suspicious activities or behavior, immediately report those to UCPD too. It is a good idea to program the UCPD dispatch number, 310-825-1491, into your phone.
Non-emergencies: For issues that are not imminent threats or emergencies, faculty and staff can tell their supervisors or managers, the Employee and Labor Relations Department (in Campus Human Resources or Healthcare Human Resources), or Academic Personnel. Students can call the Dean of Students Office at 310-825-3871 to submit safety concerns that are not imminent threats, report someone who is problematic, receive consultation and learn more about policy.
SAFETY AND COUNSELING RESOURCES
UCLA Violence Prevention and Response Team
The Violence Prevention and Response Team is made up of many members. For contact information, see the Preventing and Responding to Violence in the UCLA Community brochure. In addition, the brochure provides a wealth of information, including a link to the UCLA Workplace Violence Prevention Policy.
UCLA Police Department
The UCPD has many campus safety programs. For information, call 310-825-1491 or visit http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/police. The Community Service Officer program provides free evening escort services to students, faculty, staff and visitors every day from dusk until 1 a.m. between campus buildings, local living areas or Westwood Village, within the approximate boundaries of Sunset Boulevard to the north, Hilgard Avenue to the east, Wilshire Boulevard to the south and Veteran Avenue to the west. For more information about the program, visit http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1000806.
UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center
The Staff and Faculty Counseling Center (SFCC) works closely with faculty and staff who are concerned about the possible threat of violence or have been affected by an incident of violence. SFCC can provide assistance for individual employees or departments by educating supervisors/managers, faculty and staff about warning signals of violence; developing an action plan that responds to threats or violent incidents; providing post-incident counseling, as well as follow-up assistance; and offering emotional support to any employee impacted by an incident. For consultation, call Jorge Cherbosque or Nan Levine at 310-794-0245.
UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services
For students, UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers individual services along with various programs and resources. Their services are strictly confidential and available to all registered students. Walk-in crisis counseling and consultation are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CAPS also provides 24-hour telephone crisis counseling at 310-825-0768. For information, visit http://www.caps.ucla.edu/ or call 310-825-0768.
