For the third consecutive time, the UCLA chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma (ALD|PES) honors societies has received the Order of the Torch Award, given by the National Office for Alpha Lambda Delta every four years to a limited number of chapters at universities and colleges throughout the country. The award recognizes the chapter's community service, general member outreach, social activities, and board of officers and advisers.
Among other community service projects, ALD|PES has participated in Reading to Kids; the Halloween Spooktacular at Embassy Suites, an event benefiting seriously ill children and their families, and the Westwood Horizons Senior Center Thanksgiving Day dance. Chapter members also participate in peer mentoring on campus.
The Order of the Torch Award was presented Oct. 11 to UCLA's chapter by Kris Guzman, former Alpha Lambda Delta National Council member from the University of Southern California.
