Two couples who have been generous long-time supporters of UCLA have established an endowed chair in the UCLA College honoring Scott Waugh, UCLA’s executive vice chancellor and provost.
A combined $1 million gift from Meyer and Renee Luskin and Ralph and Shirley Shapiro, all of whom are UCLA alumni, funded the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Division of Social Sciences.
“Their gift is especially meaningful because of the commitment it demonstrates to UCLA’s academic excellence now and long into the future,” Waugh said. “Great faculty are essential to that excellence and endowed chairs help us attract and sustain the finest.”
Alessandro Duranti, dean of the division of social sciences, said, “Named for a generous and visionary leader on this campus, the Waugh Chair will have a far-reaching impact, providing the much needed flexibility to address faculty support in a range of areas across the division.”
The gift is part of the Centennial Campaign for UCLA, a $4.2 billon fundraising drive scheduled to conclude in 2019, the university’s 100th anniversary.
