UCLA Dept. of World Arts and Cultures/Dance announces events for fall 2013

The UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance (WACD) is offering a variety of events for the public's enjoyment this fall. The department's emphasis is threefold: cross-cultural research, dance and community outreach. 
 
For events at Glorya Kaufman Hall, including those at the Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater, all-day parking ($12) and short-term parking (payable at pay stations) are available in Lot 4 (enter the campus at Sunset Boulevard and Westwood Plaza). Axis returns as part of UCLA's Disability Awareness Week with an afternoon of "physically integrated dance" — a contemporary dance form that evolves from collaboration between dancers with and without disabilities. (This event is co-sponsored by the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA and WACD.)

'Lutu Chuktiwa' (Cutting the Cord)

Join filmmaker David Shorter and his collaborators from the Yoeme Indian tribe as they premier "Lutu Chuktiwa" and then hold an open discussion about ethnographic film, tribal collaboration and the ethics of representation. (This event is sponsored by WACD, the UCLA Institute of American Cultures' American Indian Studies Center, the UCLA Department of Anthropology and the UCLA Department of Gender Studies.)

To confront the psychic conflicts they experience with an unremembered crisis, four men re-imagine movement, music and media from their 1980s youth as they search for kinship and intimacy in the past in this evening-length dance theater workshop by M.F.A. candidate Kevin Williamson.
