Nancy Sutley, chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and principal environmental policy adviser to President Barak Obama, met with some of UCLA's top researchers in climate change and green technology on Friday, July 22. The lunch meeting preceded a visit to the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, in which UCLA is a partner. The Incubator will host clean-tech start-up companies and nurture researchers who want to bring their ideas to market. "It's a great way for innovation to get into our economy," Sutley said. Above left, UCLA Director of Strategic Research Initiatives Mike Swords discusses the work of UCLA and the Incubator, as Sutley, far right, listens. Between them sit Glen MacDonald, director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, and to his right, Gaurav Sant, an assistant professor in engineering.
