UCLA will honor John Wooden’s 1973 UCLA NCAA championship men’s basketball team on Sunday, March 2, at 6 p.m. during UCLA’s final home game of the season. The team will be honored at a pre-game reception and halftime ceremony as Steve Alford’s Bruin men’s basketball squad hosts Oregon State in Pauley Pavilion. It will be the 41st anniversary of Coach Wooden’s and the Bruins’ ninth NCAA championship (seventh consecutive). Led by junior All-American center Bill Walton and forward Jamaal (Keith) Wilkes, the ’73 Bruins were the fourth team in school history to earn a perfect 30-0 overall record, and UCLA became the first team in NCAA history to have consecutive 30-0 seasons. On March 2 in Pauley Pavilion, UCLA defeated California 90-65 to clinch the 1973 Pac-8 title. It was the Bruins’ seventh consecutive conference crown, and UCLA had won the league title 11 of the past 12 years.
