A gathering of the campus community will be held at noon on Thursday, June 25, to honor the nine lives lost in the shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Student Affairs, Alumni Affairs and the University Religious Conference at UCLA are inviting the UCLA community to come together at the James West Alumni Center to collectively mourn and show support.
“We recognize that tragedies like this have a wide and deep impact and we encourage everyone to reach out to one another for support,” said Vice Chancellor Janina Montero of Student Affairs and Interim Dean of Students Maria Blandizzi in an email invitation.
In addition to this gathering, the Bruin Resource Center will be hosting a space for staff to dialogue further about the Charleston tragedy at noon this Friday, June 26, in Student Activities Center Conference Room 1.
