Spicing up the dog days of summer, thousands of UCLA staff today transformed the stately bricks of Dickson Plaza into a dance floor and giant activity center as employees celebrated during the 14th annual All-Staff Picnic.

Some 5,000 people representing departments from every corner of campus got together for the mid-summer break of lunch, ice cream, watermelon, popcorn, prize drawings, giant Jenga and Connect Four, dancing and camaraderie. UCLA leadership, including Chancellor Gene Block, showed their gratitude by welcoming attendees as they handed out the free boxed lunches to staff as they entered the east side of the plaza.

The picnic is co-sponsored by Staff Assembly, Campus Human Resources and the Office of the Chancellor to make sure that the thousands of employees who keep UCLA going every day know that they’re appreciated.
