Equipment failure knocks out power in some UCLA buildings

An explosion in a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power electrical vault at UCLA knocked out power to some of campus at around noon on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Fire Department and UCLA officials said.

The main electrical feed to campus was interrupted, forcing some buildings to switch to backup power. A cogeneration plant that supplies power to most of the campus was also offline temporarily. Full power was restored by 1:40 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
