Ren Mao, director of application development, died July 4 in Los Angeles of cancer. He was 37 years old.
Mao joined UCLA School of Law in December 2010. His contributions to the law school and its community were many. Mao worked on many major projects, including the development of the MyLaw Learning Management System, an online curriculum guide and student counseling tool. He also helped make innumerable improvements and upgrades to the admissions systems, as well as many other data-driven business applications.
A hardworking master of his craft, he possessed an ability to understand finely nuanced details and would consistently deliver solutions that conformed to what was needed, his co-workers said.
Mao began his UCLA career in the Financial Aid Office in 1997 while still an undergraduate and later transitioned to UCLA’s Career Center. He graduated from UCLA in 2001 with a B.S. degree in computer science and engineering.
He is survived by his parents and a sister.
