Dirna Mayasari, who is getting her master's at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, spent much of this past summer in Myanmar working with a refugee community. In the video, Mayasari, who was a medical student at the time, describes how witnessing the widespread death and destruction caused by the 2004 tsunami that devastated the South Pacific, including her home country of Indonesia, inspired her to dedicate herself to helping displaced people.
This video also appears on the Fielding School of Public Health's news page, where you can find videos of other inspiring student stories.
