Last weekend's 12th annual Dance Marathon put on by UCLA's student-run Pediatric AIDS Coalition raised $445,000-plus to benefit research and outreach. Approximately 70 percent of the proceeds will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which works in 15 countries to stop the spread of HIV from mother to child. This year, 990 students stayed on their feet throughout the 26-hour marathon, supported by even more student "moralers" to boost the energy at Pauley Pavilion. This year's proceeds boost the total raised over the fundraiser's 12-year history to more than $3.9 million. Brent Kennis, a first-year environmental science major, said he participated because he had heard it was a lot of fun and a worthy cause. "In the end it was a more memorable experience than I ever thought it would be," he said, "and it was truly inspiring to meet such a caring community of people. I’ll definitely be back next year."
