UCLA police have released a composite sketch of one of two suspects wanted in connection with threatening a student with a knife and making anti-gay slurs near campus Jan. 18.
The suspect in the sketch is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 26-27 years old, 5’9" and 160-170 pounds with brown eyes, a shaved head, acne scars and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The other suspect, for whom a sketch is not available, was described as being an Hispanic male, also approximately 26-27 years old, 6’4" and about 300 pounds, with long black slicked-back hair and baggy clothing.
The crime occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 while the victim was walking south in the 400 block of Gayley Avenue. Two suspects pulled up in a dark-colored four-door sedan and approached the victim, with the suspect in the sketch making the threats and slurs. The suspects then fled the scene heading south on Gayley. The victim suffered minor scratches and bruises.
UCLA police made the incident public on Jan. 19. They have asked that anyone with information call Det. Selby Arsena at 310-825-9371 and reference report #13-0113. To report a tip anonymously, call 310-794-5824.
UCLA police remind students and other members of the campus community to take common-sense steps to protect their safety. For example, avoid walking alone at night, be aware of your surroundings and use the community service officer escort service, available at (310) 794-WALK, or the Evening Van at (310) 825-9800.
Police also urge students to call 911 if there is an immediate threat and recommend that students program into their mobile phones the department's phone number, 310-825-1491, and use it to report suspicious activities or individuals.
