Rachel Garcia, the top pitcher on the national champion UCLA softball team, was named on Monday the winner of the 2019 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Award and the prestigious Honda Cup.

Garcia is the fifth Bruin to win the Honda Cup, joining UCLA standouts Ann Meyers (basketball, 1978), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (track and field, 1985), Lisa Fernandez (softball, 1993) and Natasha Watley (softball, 2003).

Finalists for the Honda Cup are selected in voting by nearly 1,000 NCAA member schools. The winner is chosen by the board of directors of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program.
