Since the Jan. 8 launch of the University of California’s Campus Climate Study, nearly 17 percent of UCLA's students, faculty and staff have completed the systemwide survey, a tool that's being used to learn about the campus community's experiences with diversity and inclusion, with the goal of helping UCLA maintain a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone.
Despite the progress that has been made so far, campus leaders are aiming to reach or exceed a 30 percent participation rate by the time the survey closes on Feb. 22. Higher participation from students, faculty and staff will ensure the accuracy of the data and allow UCLA to better identify areas where improvements can be made to foster a more positive and inclusive campus climate.
Chancellor Gene Block highlighted the importance of the Campus Climate Study for the campus in an email a few weeks ago, announcing the launch of the survey and strongly encouraging the campus community to participate.
"The responses you provide will be invaluable in assessing the living, learning and working environment for all those who attend, work at or visit UCLA. Please take the time to make your voice count and help UCLA continue to be a leader in inclusion and diversity in higher education," the chancellor wrote.
For those who may need an extra nudge, UCLA participants are automatically entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes. So far, 24 UCLA students, faculty and staff members have won prizes ranging from $25 to $75 Bruin cards to tickets to basketball games and Circus Oz, among other events.
The UC Office of the President will also be awarding prizes, including a $10,000 undergraduate scholarship and iPads, when the survey closes at all locations in the system.
