Before today's UCLA College of Letters and Science commencement ceremonies, auditions were held to select two students to sing The Star-Spangled Banner. The graduating seniors who were chosen, Ashley Yoon and Shannon Foley, received coaching in the song and its peculiar challenges from UCLA vocal studies chair Michael Dean. Here is a video story about those sessions.
When the time came, both singers performed great. Yoon sang for the 2 p.m. ceremony in Pauley Pavilion. Foley sang at the 7 p.m. ceremony. Watch and listen below.
