If you want to know about employment and payroll trends in Los Angeles, the economists at the Anderson Forecast have all the right numbers as well as the expertise to make sense of them. Now some of their key data are available to the public on a new city website that was recently launched by Mayor Eric Garcetti in an effort to make data about the city more accessible and transparent, and the city more accountable to its residents..

In the latest collaboration between the UCLA Anderson Forecast and the City of Los Angeles, the Anderson Forecast has partnered with the mayor’s office to help launch the new online open data portal called DataLA. The website acts as a central resource for anyone seeking data about the city — from jobs and the economy to public safety, quality of life and government efficiency.

“Our new Open Data portal gives residents access to the same information as their elected officials,” Garcetti said in an official statement for launch last month. “With this new tool, academics, developers, journalists and anyone with an interest in Los Angeles can access a one-stop treasure trove of information that was previously scattered across city websites if it was available at all."

To help the city provide the public the most accurate employment data on the DataLA portal, Anderson Forecast economist William Yu worked closely with the mayor’s office to develop the UCLA Anderson Forecast Los Angeles City Monthly Employment Estimate, which shows estimates for household employment — the number of City of Los Angeles residents who currently have jobs — and payroll employment — the number of jobs located in the City of Los Angeles. The estimate will be updated monthly.
