UCLA Fielding School of Public Health signs MOU with China's Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences

Dr. Luqi Huang and Dean Jody Heymann

Dean Jody Heymann shares a congratulatory handshake with Dr. Luqi Huang of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

Delegates from China’s Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing visited the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health on Tuesday, May 30, to sign an official memorandum of understanding with the school. The MOU is a symbol of collaborative commitment to advance joint research and training opportunities for students and faculty of both organizations.

The gathering to sign and commemorate the MOU was attended by senior leaders from across UCLA and the public health school, including UCLA Fielding's Dean Jody Heymann and Associate Dean for Research Zuo-Feng Zhang who welcomed Dr. Luqi Huang, an academician and vice president of China’s Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences along with five additional delegates from the academy.

“This agreement allows us to leverage our respective strengths, establish multi-level and multi-field cooperation in personnel training and exchange, and carry out joint research," said Huang. "I sincerely hope our continued cooperation will result in major advances in our fields.”

In September 2016, the academy and the Fielding school conducted a global leader training workshop for epidemiology and global public health and an advanced seminar of medical and public health education reform last March. Planned forthcoming collaborative efforts include faculty and student exchange, additional research and training programs and a joint international symposium scheduled for next  academic year.
