UCLA police have arrested a man on campus on suspicion of attempted robbery.
Robert Andrews, 23, of Los Angeles, was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. March 14 in the Janss Steps area of campus. Andrews allegedly threatened a UCLA student, demanding the student’s mobile phone. The student, who was unharmed, instead called police, who responded to the scene and arrested Andrews.
"The victim called us in a timely fashion, allowing our officers to quickly apprehend the suspect," said UCLA Police Chief James D. Herren. "We appreciate the involvement of the community to help keep the campus safe."
Andrews, who is not a student, was in UCLA police custody.
