Arturo Vargas Bustamante is an associate professor of health policy and management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and director of faculty research at UCLA’s Latino Policy and Politics Initiative.
He has a broad background in health policy, with specific expertise in health care survey research and data analysis, health care cost estimation, economic valuation, and program evaluation. His research into health disparities focuses on groups — particularly Latinos — that are overwhelmingly uninsured or that have poor access to health care.
Vargas Bustamante’s work on health care in developing countries examines cross-border health care and health services privatization, particularly in Latin America, and he has led efforts to increase the number of Latino physicians in California.
