Sparse reconstruction
Scanning tunneling microscope (STM) images: DNA Origami. The STM is a powerful tool with the ability to image single molecules, even atoms, but the data are slow to recover and contain difficult to correct artifacts.
A) Scanning tunneling micrograph under poor conditions: only a fraction of the data were collected, and the parts that were acquired have blurring artifacts.
B) Using the concepts of sparse reconstruction, the investigators were able to form the high quality, complete and unblurred reconstruction of the complete image using just the degraded samples in A.
