Lagerstroemia x hybrid (crape myrtle)

Tamar Levine/UCLA

Located just outside the offices of UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance, this deciduous tree (meaning it sheds its leaves in the winter) blooms in the spring; in the fall, its leaves often change to a very vibrant color. “The prettiest trees on campus in the fall are the crape myrtles,” Dollase says. “If you were to go up to De Neve [Residential Plaza], there are crape myrtles that have the most magnificent red foliage.”
