The wings that bats use for flight evolved from flightless ancestors with short fingers. The research of Karen Sears, professor and chair of UCLA’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, is featured in the exhibit “Extreme Mammals” at the Natural History Museum through Sept 10.
