The funds, from the J. Yang and Family Foundation, will provide scholarships and bolster research and curriculum development.

UCLA’s Centennial Celebration features four initiatives.

The gift will help bridge the so-called “valley of death” in laboratory research, when lack of funding prevents promising discoveries from reaching clinical trials.

Center will bring together academic researchers, students and health care executives and practitioners to explore critical issues in the management of health care organizations.

The donation from the Patricia W. Mitchell Trusts will also support the UCLA Film & Television Archive.

The donation establishes the Doumani Research Innovation Fund, which will support translating scientific discoveries into new treatments for people with cancer.

The couple have now given more than $188 million to UCLA and more than $478 million overall to the University of California system.

Funds will be directed to the the UCLA Labor Center and the UCLA Institute for Immigration, Globalization, and Education.

The position will be held by a distinguished faculty member in the department of art who is also a respected practitioner.
