Two of the country’s premier women’s gymnastics programs, UCLA and the University of Oklahoma, jointly honored women who have spoken out against sexual abuse. Those honored during the Feb. 4 meet at Pauley Pavilion included student-athletes and former UCLA student-athletes Jeanette Antolin, Jamie Dantzscher, Mattie Larson, as well as Jordyn Wieber, Olympic gold medalist and current UCLA volunteer assistant coach, and Oklahoma sophomore Maggie Nichols.
A three-minute video paying tribute to the young women was shown at the conclusion of the gymnastics meet. Both teams wore teal ribbons and fans were given teal pompoms and wristbands as part of the “Together We Rise” tribute.
More than 150 survivors of sexual abuse traveled to a courthouse in Lansing, Michigan last month to share their stories and confront their abuser.
