Chandra Bhatnagar has been selected to join campus human resources at UCLA as director of staff diversity and affirmative action/EEO compliance. This role includes responsibility for developing and implementing UCLA’s staff affirmative action plan; programs to ensure equal employment opportunity for staff; investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints; and educational efforts to advance staff diversity and inclusion, in partnership with other colleagues on campus and in the health system.
He begins his job Nov. 13, 2017.
Bhatnagar served as senior attorney advisor to commissioner and former chair Jenny Yang of the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission until September 2017. From February 2015 to January 2017, he advised Yang on a wide range of legal and policy matters when she was chair of the commission. He spent a decade in the human rights program of the American Civil Liberties Union, where he was a senior staff attorney and led the program’s litigation and strategic policy advocacy on issues related to racial justice and immigrants’ rights. Before joining the ACLU, Chandra was a staff attorney and Skadden fellow with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, where he directed the South Asian Workers’ Project for Human Rights.
Bhatnagar holds a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College, a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and a Master of Laws degree from Columbia University School of Law.
