The UCLA Film and Television Archive presents a 20th anniversary screening of “Fire” (1996) on Saturday, March 19, 7:30 p.m. at UCLA’s Billy Wilder Theater.

Filmmaker Deepa Mehta’s stirring drama, which centers on the relationship between two women in loveless marriages, spurred intense controversy in India with its unprecedented depiction of love between women and suggestions about their autonomy and liberation. “Fire” went on to garner honors worldwide, including the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at Outfest 1997.

The screening opens the archive’s Outfest UCLA Legacy Project Screening Series. Tickets are $10; Outfest members receive 2 for 1 admission. Find more information and purchase tickets here.
