Miguel Garcia-Garibay, professor and chair of the UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been selected to receive the 2015 Faculty-Staff Partnership Award in recognition of his commitment to creating and fostering a collaborative and professional working environment.
Selected by UCLA Staff Assembly from a field of candidates nominated by UCLA colleagues, he will receive the award in June during the Staff Assembly Recognition Awards Reception at the Faculty Center.
A faculty member since 1992, vice chair for education in his department from 2005-2008 and department chair since 2012, Garcia-Garibay is an authority on organic solid-state chemistry and has researched everything from the photochemistry of crystalline solids and molecular machines to chemical reactions for synthetic applications within the bulk of solids, as applicable to green chemistry. He was recently recognized for his organic chemistry career excellence as one of 10 recipients of the 2015 ACS Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award.
