UCLA psychology professor Lara Ray will receive the American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology, an honor that recognizes excellent psychologists who are in the early stages of their research careers.
Ray is currently the head of the UCLA Addictions Lab and continues to further her research career.
She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology and behavioral neuroscience from the University of Colorado at Boulder. At UCLA, her work focuses on etiology and treatment of substance use disorders, particularly alcohol abuse and dependence. Her program of research focuses on the integration of clinical psychology, pharmacology and behavioral genetics. Professor Ray is particularly interested in employing experimental designs to answer questions about mechanisms of risk and of treatment response for substance use disorders.
