Sociology professor Judith A. Seltzer has been elected president of the Population Association of America for 2015. She will serve as president-elect in 2015 and as president in 2016.

The Population Association of America is a nonprofit, scientific, professional organization established to promote the improvement, advancement and progress of the human race through research on problems related to human population. It has more than 3,000 members.

Still thriving in her now 30-year career, Seltzer is the director of the California Center for Population Research at UCLA and has established herself as a leading scholar of turbulent relationships. Her research examines marriage, cohabitation, divorce and nonmarital families in the United States.

Her current work focuses on parents and adult children. She is the principal investigator on a study that examines how they help each other by living together or transferring money and time.
