Stephen Aron, an authority on the American West and author of "The American West: A Very Short Introduction," recently published by Oxford University, is the new Robert N. Burr Chair of UCLA’s department of history.
Since joining the department in 1996, Aron has established himself as a leader in the history of the American West, and he has developed a reputation for building bridges between academia and the general public. For the past 12 years, he has split his time between campus and the Institute for the Study of the American West, of which he was the founding executive director, at the Autry National Center. In 2017, Aron will assume the additional post of president of the Western History Association.
