The annual Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings by Education Week lists 10 UCLA faculty, who are included among the top 200 education professors across the nation. Wasserman Dean Marcelo Suárez-Orozco led a list of UCLA Education colleagues, including Eva Baker, Patricia Gándara, Louis Gomez, Tyrone Howard, Sylvia Hurtado, Pedro Noguera, Jeannie Oakes, Gary Orfield and Mike Rose. Professor Noguera was in the top 10 at No. 7.
The list is compiled by Frederick Hess, director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute and Ed Week blogger. Using nine publicly available metrics including Google Scholar, Book Points, Highest Amazon Ranking, Syllabus Points, Education Press Mentions, Web Mentions, Newspaper Mentions, Congressional Record Mentions, and Klout Score, he measures the impact of these university-based academics on the public discussion of education.
“GSE&IS scholars are broadly influential the world over,” says Suárez-Orozco. “While all rankings are limited and somewhat arbitrary, it is gratifying to see in this particular ‘scholars of influence’ [rankings] list so many of our stellar colleagues represented.”
