Daniel Saavedra, assistant professor of accounting at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, will receive the 2017 Competitive Manuscript Award from the American Accounting Association for his manuscript “Renegotiation and the Choice of Covenants in Debt Contracts.”

Saavedra, one of two recipients of the award, completed his graduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015. His main research interests are financial contracting and corporate taxation. Saavedra’s thesis investigates how the prospect of future renegotiations affects the design of loan contracts.

The Competitive Manuscript Award was created to encourage research among the association’s regular, life and student members who have earned their doctoral degrees within the past five years. This award will be presented to the recipients in the form of unique glass art pieces on Aug. 9 at the association’s annual meeting in San Diego, California.
