The UCLA Library has long recognized that its collections represent a wide world of languages.
Based on custom reports generated from the UCLA Library catalog, it has been determined that library materials currently encompass more than 400 languages. Topping the list, not suprisingly, is English, with 4,331,234 items in the library catalog. The languages of Pampanga, Kru, Frisian, Fang and Duala have only 10 items each in the library’s collections.
To add a visual element to the data, UCLA Library staff created an infographic by importing a "snapshot" from the library catalog into Tableau Public, an online data visualization tool.
