Efrén Pérez

Efrén Pérez is a professor of political science and psychology and director of the Race, Ethnicity, Politics and Society Lab. He also co-directs its Intergroup Relations Lab.

Pérez’s scholarship centers on political psychology, drawing on psychological insights to better understand the political attitudes of racial and ethnic groups in the United States, language and political thinking, implicit political attitudes, and the measurement of political concepts. His research primarily focuses on group identity, interminority politics, and language and public opinion. 

He is the author of several books including "Voicing Politics: How Language Shapes Public Opinion," which received the 2023 Robert E. Lane Best Book in Political Psychology Award from the American Political Science Association, "Diversity’s Child: People of Color and the Politics of Identity" and "Racial Order, Racialized Responses: Interminority Politics in a Diverse Nation." His first book “Unspoken Politics: Implicit Attitudes and Political Thinking” received two awards from the American Political Science Association.
