UCLA, in a partnership with USC, will host the 14th Special Olympics World Games in 2015. Roughly 3,500 athletes and support personnel — about 35 percent of the total participants — will be staying on the UCLA campus. These athletes, coaches, family members, dignitaries and other visiting guests will be speaking 63 languages.
Prior to the 2015 Special Olympics, there will be a Summer Games Invitational, which will host people from a smaller number of countries. Volunteers are needed for the following languages to interpret during these games: Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, German, Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, Russian, Samoan and Spanish.
The invitational will be held in Los Angeles from June 5-9. The deadline to apply is April 15. Volunteers must be available for at least two eight-hour shifts. For more information or to register to volunteer, email Kathryn Paul.
