Adnan Darwiche, professor and chair of the computer science department, and Rafail Ostrovsky, professor of computer science, were announced as recipients of the 2019 J.P. Morgan Faculty Award.

Darwiche and Ostrovsky each received a grant of $150,000 to study the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in areas including investment advice, risk management, digital assistants and trading behavior.

Darwiche focuses his research on probabilistic and symbolic reasoning and their applications. Ostrovsky, who is also a professor of mathematics in the UCLA College, researches computation theory in cryptography, network algorithms and large-scale data.
