Michael Stenstrom, distinguished professor of civil and environmental engineering in the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, has been awarded the Fair Medal by the Water Environment Federation.

This medal recognizes accomplishments in education in the engineering field. The award honors Gordon Maskew Fair, a professor of sanitary engineering at Harvard University. The Water Environment Federation is a nonprofit technical and educational organization made up of more than 35,000 individual members and 75 affiliated member associations representing water quality professionals around the world.

Stenstrom’s research focuses on process development for water and wastewater treatment systems, including mathematical modeling and optimization. He has previously received the foundation’s Camp Medal for Applied Research.
