On Friday, Sept. 20, UCLA Transporation will be trasforming three parking spaces in Dickson Court into a mini-park as part of its inaugural Park(ing) Day pop-up on campus. The event will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature entertainment, activities and refreshments.

The university will provide community members with comfortable seating, complimentary coffee, snacks and games. UCLA’s Healthy Campus Initiative will be on hand to lead stretching exercises and mindfulness meditations throughout the day. Inside the “mini-park,” instructors will additionally offer gardening tips.

Westwood Village is also participating in Park(ing) Day and the Westwood Village Improvement Association will be hosting an installation in partnership with the Ministry of Coffee, Lyft Scooters and the West Los Angeles Regional Public Library. Westwood Village’s pop-up at will be hosted at 1010 Glendon Ave. and will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can sip complimentary coffee, grab a helmet free of charge, stay for a scooter safety demonstration by Lyft and participate in a zine workshop sponsored by the library.

The events are a part of a global celebration which began in San Francisco in 2005. Every year on the third Friday of September, Park(ing) Day promotes prioritizing people over cars by converting parking spaces into public places.
