Head for the UCLA Hammer Museum on Saturday, Sept. for a free hula dance workshop and performances by the New York-based Hawaiian dance group, Hālau Hula O Na Mele ‘Āina O Hawai’i, led by native-Hawaiian choreographer Luana Haraguchi.

At 11 a.m., Haraguchi will teach a 90-minute hula workshop. To participate, RSVP in advance here. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to dance barefoot.

At 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m., the troupe will present traditional hula kahiko, featuring dance artist Ei Arakawa. The performances will be set in the Hammer lobby against the backdrop of the large-scale painting “Seascape (with moon)” by artist and UCLA faculty member Silke Otto-Knapp.
