Chris Mattmann, UCLA’s chief data and artificial intelligence officer, spoke on CNN’s “The Story Is: With Elex Michaelson” about AI safety concerns — a hot topic — as King Charles hosted a summit Thursday with global tech leaders. “Since May 2026 of this year, Anthropic published a blog, and they said at that point 80% of the code that Anthropic was actually generating for Claude, its own AI chatbot, was being generated by Claude itself,” Mattmann said. New evidence shows you’re only slightly hotter than a T. rex | NPR’s “All Things Considered”

UCLA's Tyrannosaurus rex study was mentioned in NPR's Short Wave science podcast: "And, Juana, there's another bonus fact about T. rexes out in a different journal this week, which looked at a T. rex tooth and determined T. rexes were probably the same temperature as us, 97 degrees Fahrenheit … Which is surprising because people tend to think dinosaurs were like today's reptiles, you know, cold-blooded, but this [UCLA study] shows they were actually warm-blooded and active." Native Hawaiian women have highest breast cancer incidence | AsAmNews

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and the American Cancer Society co-authored research disaggregating cancer data for AANHPI communities. The research found that Native Hawaiian women, in addition to having the highest rates of breast cancer incidence, have a 27% higher breast cancer incidence than white women. (UCLA’s Dr. Kekoa Taparra was quoted.)
