In honor of the observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Chancellor Gene Block sent a message on Jan. 17 recognizing UCLA’s own James Lawson, who was a friend and colleague of the slain civil rights leader.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy of courage & compassion remind us of our civic responsibility to make change and work for justice. UCLA is fortunate to have leaders like Rev. James Lawson — one of King’s close allies — to help us carry on this work.
